Unique format and an easy read

This is a perfect easy read for people just starting to learn about cameras for film and video, along with other supporting equipment. It reads as if you were reading "Diary of a Wimpy Kid", except it's teaching you at the same time. We purchased this for our son that isn't really a reader. He can read of course, but he just doesn't like to. He likes the format.

In 2012, Paul Conibeer, a traveler was jailed in Bali's infamous Kerobokan Prison - the home of Shapelle Corby, the 'Bali Nine' and a host of international travelers on death row for smuggling drugs. Paul's crime was a dispute over an unpaid hotel bill and his failure to 'pay off' the right people in the Kuta Police system that saw him jailed for almost 12 months. In 'I Survived Kerobokan Prison' Paul tells his harrowing story of sleeping on a tiled floor at Kuta Police Station for 60 days, using a water bottle as a pillow. After two months of hell in a stench-filled cell he was transferred to Kerobokan. Kerobokan brought Paul into contact with a wide variety of prisoners - murderers, rapists, drug mules and the innocent, like himself - all searching for a way to survive. In his 300 days in Kerobokan, the toll on Paul's body and mental state were dramatic in that he: lived with 52 men in a 33 man cell. slept on a mattress on the floor with the rats and cockroaches. had no money to barter for food, water and smokes. continually had to watch his back frightened that he might be stabbed. had his cell mate die in his arms from sickness.

The best gardening book I've read

Ed's new book: Marijuana Grower's Handbook is the best. It has very detailed information on every aspect of growing cannabis. I like that the book is very linear and has sections like water and nutrients. It is very easy to pick out a chapter for study and then apply it to the garden. I just saw Ed yesterday at HempCon San Jose and he is one passionate guy. He rallied the troops for Prop. 19 and answered every garden question from the audience. What an enthusiastic guy. By the way, I purchased the book at a hydroponics store and the cover split right away. I was given a free copy that Ed autographed! Nice!
I also like that the book spends time on outdoor gardens. This is a vital part of gardening. Most cannabis schools don't spend any time on this and I think it's not fair. There are many outdoor growers and it's nice to know that Ed is there for us, too. I have had many questions on growing and this book is a great resource. The cannabis industry is changing rapidly and it's great to have a champion like Ed Rosenthal. Buy this book and you won't be disappointed.

A good start for beginners...

I had a copy of Jorge Cervantes' Marijuana Horticulture Medical Grow Bible, and the information in that book was a bit more detailed in terms of setting up a garden, understanding the needs of the plants, and even offers a section on genetics and breeding. Knowing how prominent Ed Rosenthal is as a grower, I was a bit disappointed at the content of the book. For example, there is an entire section dedicated to explaining how terpenoids, THC and THC-delta9 affect the brain, and how those effects are perceived. In that same section, it outlines the different isomeric structures of the THC molecule. When I moved on to find detailed information on the curing process, I found a basic two to three page section that barely describes one of the most important processes in producing medical cannabis. The section devotes more time to the expensive gadgets that are used to trim the flowers, and barely covers what the buds will do while curing. Personally, I think it would be a better investment to go with Jorge Cervantes' book and dvd.

ed finally did it, i have been reading his books for years, but finally an easy to read bible with all the stuff you need to grow sticky nugs. atmosphere, varieties, humidity, lighting. cloning, curing many different systems that all work, really a masterpiece.this is not a compilation of previous books, the ganja guru has started from scratch. this is by far the best yet on the subject. A MUST HAVE BOOK

Gives a good overview of the Procurement Cycle with concise explanations. Better suited for those new to Procurement and Supply Chain concepts than those working in the field or with a SCM background.

This book wasn't quite what I was looking for but would recommend it to someone who is trying to improve their general knowledge of Procurement either in the workplace or in academia.

Fantastic collection, meticulously transcribed

This is an amazingly complete and accurate collection... musicians attempting to learn and to replicate the Beatles sound will not be disappointed. Included are all instrument parts, all vocal parts, and chord names above the staff, with tablature for the bass and guitar parts. What a bargain!
At times, the authors were able to capture some subtlties in the music which had gone unnoticed by me... but a careful re-listening to the song revealed the score to be surprisingly correct.
Regarding some of the complaints in other Amazon reviews, which made me a bit hesitant to buy:
1) Size of the print: it really is not that small, and it is quite legible.
2) Supposed inaccuracy of chord names: it appears that there is a general chord name above the staff, but more detailed guitar-part scoring in the staff... they were not trying to name the exact chord every time... in some cases not every string is being played.
3) Complaints about the inclusion of 'tab' for 'musical illiterates': tab actually includes, concisely, information which standard notation cannot show easily... like exactly which string/fret to use, out of several options on the guitar. And, by the way, Paul McCartney STILL does not read or write standard notation himself.
NOTE: I also compared this book to Hal Leonard's "The Beatles" (21 songs, in their "Transcribed Scores" series), and was amazed how much better The Beatles Complete Scores is.

The best book there is

I have owned at one time or another the 4 Lennon McCartney song books.

The major flaw with those books was that they replicated the melody line and attached a chord, but in most cases they came nowhere near the actual arrangements. This is particularly true on piano based hits such as Hey Jude, Let it Be, Yesterday, Lady Madonna, Back in the USSR etc.

This book gets the original arrangements as played by the Beatles which are generally much better and actually easier to play a lot of times. You can discern McCartney's piano style which is not technically difficult. After all you are accompanying a voice and not playing a melody.

So when you play Let it Be it sounds so much better, and with Hey Jude you think that's all he did to make that sound. Lady Madonna enables you to sound ridiculously accomplished playing something that is technically quite easy. Obviously I am approaching this from a piano player's viewpoint.

As far as guitar is concerned, it has very authentic transcriptions, certainly on the fingerpicking songs such as Blackbird and Julia, which are not that difficult to reproduce.

I have found this book to be unbelievably helpful. You are getting some of the Beatles trade secrets here. You finally get to see the outside the box thinking that separated the Beatles from the rest. I rate this book the best sheet music investment I have ever made, and a must for any aspiring musician. The genius is in the details.

The Best Book of Its Kind - But Mis-Titled As "Complete"

This book is as good as it gets - period. All titles from The Beatles catalog of British & American releases (during the group's career together) are represented. That's the first major plus of the book - you get The Beatles' arrangements of all their covers from Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, etc. They are great fun to play and many Beatles' versions are better-known than the originals. I know of no other source for these arrangements.
As mentioned by many other reviewers, you get a pretty heroic stab at scoring all the instruments heard on every song. This admirable attempt gets you on the right track (in the right key signature, etc.), but falls short on detail of all but the simplest (usually from the early years) songs. Clearly The Beatles had extensive use of multiple 4 track machines and eventually 8 tracks as they matured. This book "scores" usually only 5 parts. It would be impossible to score ALL the over-dubs and extremely lengthy to include all instrumentation, notes and George Martin's orchestral arrangements. So, I pick a bone with the authors using the title, "The Complete Scores". To me, that term means something very specific which is not appropriate for these types of recordings. The Beatles, George Martin and his engineers were awsome craftsmen. The layers of sounds we hear on the finished records are a one-time snapshot of their creative process - often with somewhat muddy results. For example, "I Am The Walrus" does have a guitar part - pretty lost in the mix and not represented in the book. I just don't think it's possible to get the "Complete" details on these recordings.
To save space, the authors often have you incorrectly play a single part for each verse repeat. I know this is getting picky, but the building bass line is the counter-melody in "Something" and the dualing guitar fills in "The Ballad of John & Yoko" change as the song builds. Both are important to each song's development and resolution...
In fact, if you really really try, you can find little errors in many songs; mis-titled chords here, incorrect licks there. The non-standard guitar tuning referenced in "Rain" I believe is wrong...BUT, pop in a CD and open the book - you'll get an extremely good idea of what to play. By scoring all the main parts, the authors make this book good as gold for aspiring cover bands.
It may not really be "The Complete Scores", but this book is surely a treasure map to some of the finest and most creative recordings in pop music. I love it!

The first eBook that I ever read was John Simpson’s Condor One. This would hook me into the mm romance genre. I have followed the series over the last several years and have enjoyed it very much. Now, the series comes to an end as Mr. Simpson has published Condor and the Shifting Sands.

David Windsor, the former President of the United States and current US Ambassador to the Court of St. James (in other words, US Ambassador to the United Kingdom), where his cousin King William sits on the throne. He receives a call from the Duke of Somerset, also know as Darren Wilson the son of the current US President. He tells his David that his mother would like him to call him as soon as possible. Knowing something must be wrong if the President was not using official channels to contact him, David places the call.

President Victoria Wilson asks David and his husband Shane Thompson-Windsor to stop by Washington on the pretense of visiting Shane’s ailing father. However, she has other plans for the men. There are two world problems that are growing quickly and there are no other options than to send David and Shane to try to diffuse the situations. It appears that ISIS is about to take over and destroy a key dam in Iraq that if destroyed will flood a lot of the country. Also, Vladimir Putin is doing some sabre rattling around the border of Ukraine. She would like the pair to fly over there to find solutions to both problems without starting World War III. It is up to David to find diplomatic solutions while Shane once again protects his backside and gives his own unique opinion of the situation.

Shifting Sands is a good send off for the series but there was something missing from it to make it an excellent one. First, readers are used to books in the series being about twice as long as this one and the story felt a bit rushed. While most of the supporting characters make an appearance in the book, I felt that they should have been featured more during this book, especially their son Jack. But Sands does give you the romance and action from David and Shane that you have come to expect from this series.

The cover art by Maria Fanning has been consistent throughout the series. The same models for David and Shane have been featured on most of the covers. This cover has the pair standing in front of a window presumably at Winfield House. Above this, a picture of a swirling sand dune take the to third of the cover. It is a solid cover for the book.

The Condor One series started with David Windsor running for election for President while being guarded by Secret Service Agent Shane Thompson and their budding romance. The first three books deal with the election and David’s term as president and being the first openly gay president. Then next four books deal with the time immediately after David’s presidency and building a family with Shane and their adopted son Jack.

In the series, Mr. Simpson tackled marriage equality, the war in Iraq, the military industrial complex, don’t ask-don’t tell, energy policy, radical Islam, sleeper cells, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Ukraine, homelessness, gay teens and more. Mr. Simpson has tried to keep the series relevant but real life current events can sometimes get in the way of that. (Osama bin Laden and Muammar Gaddafi were still alive in his books after both were killed due to the lag in publication.) The only small quibble I had with the series is some continuity issues through the books. It seemed that the ages of Brandon Wilson and Jack Thompson-Windsor seem to bounce around. Also, David and Shane were first going to retire to Palm Springs but wound up in New Jersey. But these do not take away in the enjoyment of the series. Here is hoping that David and Shane have a fulfilling retirement away from their political stage.

Riveting series!

I just finished reading the entire seven book series and it was absolutely riveting. All the characters were fascinating and the various plots were intriguing and fast paced. I had a hard time putting a book down in order to catch some much needed sleep!
The protocol and security measures needed to accomplish the many varied goals of the U.S. in any endeavor is mind boggling. The stress these men and women must live with on a day-to-day basis is unimaginable to the average citizen. We must, as a nation, give thanks to everyone who is in the government's employ. Without these selfless individuals our nation wouldn't be the great nation that it is. And we must not forget the brave men and women who serve in our military. Without them we would not be the America that we enjoy through their sacrifice and commitment to honor and country.
This is a wonderful series I highly recommend. Kudos, John Simpson.

I have missed David and Shane

Wouldn't the world be a better place if we truly had diplomats like David. It would be fantastic if we could handle ISIS or Putin like this, but we can't. What saddens me is how little most people know about he situation the Ukraine, Russia's, Iraq or Syria. People know more about the Kardashians than what truly matters. Mr. Simpson keep up the great and wonderful work you do balancing entertainment and world facts.
