More Substantial Than Expected

I expected this book to be more of a "boy's own" Revolutionary War adventure, with lots of skulking and escapades and running about in the woods, while characters like Paul Revere and Samuel Adams flitted about in the background, and great liberties were taken with the historical record. I was wrong. As it turned out, this was more historically accurate, pithier, and more dramatic than one could hope. Johnny Tremain is more complex and sharp edged and the adult characters are more finely presented than usual for an historical adventure. This is much more like a dramatization of Forbes' straight nonfiction than it is an adventure romance actioner. As a consequence it is both more demanding and more rewarding for a young reader. An interesting choice for a mature young historical fiction reader.

I first read this book when i was in the 7th grade and have never forgotten it. i decided to reread it after 60 years and was not disappointed. A very interesting, informative novel about life in Boston prior to the evolution. This is a must for all young readers.

About the Author

Thomas G. Weiss is Presidential Professor of Political Science at The CUNY Graduate Center and Director of the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies, where he is co-director of the United Nations Intellectual History Project. He is the chair of the Academic Council on the UN System and the former editor of its journal, Global Governance. He has written or edited some 35 books and numerous articles about multilateral approaches to international peace and security, humanitarian action, and sustainable development.

Sam Daws is Executive Director of the United Nations Association of the UK. He has served as a senior policy advisor on UN issues for 17 years, including three years as First Officer in the Executive Office of Secretary-General Kofi Annan. He previously directed a Geneva-based international consultancy. He undertook doctoral studies on UN reform at New College, Oxford, and has been a visiting fellow at Cambridge and Yale Universities. He has co-authored or edited six books.

I went into this book already knowing a lot on the subject of the Philadelphia Experiment and learned even more new info. It has an interesting format and easy to follow. I highly recommend it if you are interested in the subject.

This book totally sucked.

Having wanted to learn about the fascinating subject of the Philadephia Experiment I came to Amazon.com to look for credible books on the subject. Unfortunately, I fell for the suggestion to read this book. The only good news is that it cost less than $5 and wasted only a day of my time reading it. The book is not credible. It's a fairy tale, literally as well as the way the story is told. Save your money and buy something else.

Not what I was expecting

The idea of this book was fascinating for someone who enjoys conspiracy theories. However, it ended up being a complete let down. It was a short read so I didn't have to suffer that long. The plot was ridiculous. Alice was taken into questioning due to the fact she had hacked into government files about the Philadelphia Experiment. We are then taken into flash backs of how Alice had first heard of this theory. The entire book we are told to believe Alice is this super genius when her dialogue says otherwise. Finally, after being given repetitive and pointless information, we are thrown back into the present where she is currently being questioned. What happens? Nothing. Nothing at all.

Oh wait, they let her go, take her home, then offer her a job.

There was no climax, filled with nothing I hadn't already read online, and the characters had no depth. I do not recommend.

The ATI NCLEX-RN Review (16th addition)

The ATI NCLEX-RN Review (Complete Source of Essential NCLEX Exam Information 16th Edition) was a great summary of med/surg, pharm, mental health, pediatrics and fundamentals. Very Concise, on all relevant subject matter, I wish I'd had if for the duration of my last semester, to use with the saunders Q & A Cd (5000) questions. These were the only two study guides I used in preparation for the NCLEX. The book is so consice, it might be insufficient if you were not a nursing student, but for the student who has been introduced to the subject matter, it is great. The other ATI books, there are quite a few, one on each subject, are lengthy and through, but if you know you won't review 9 other books ranging from 150-700 pages each, this is a very useful and adequate review, that could very well be read cover to cover several times during your final semester of nursing school, it would even be useful to review the relevant sections during the relevant class (eg. the pharm section during your pharmacology course). P.S. I did pass the NCLEX first attempt.

Great review book!

It's a great review book, however it does have some issues: 1) Nursing interventions are not listed in priority order, 2) There are some conflicting facts between this review book and the ATI books 3) Although it is technically a review book, it is pretty dense. By no means should it take place of reading the ATI books but it is definitely a great review for the ATI Comprehensive Predictor!
