This book is just that, a work in the "Dr. Spock" genre that will prove to be a bible for parents of "preemies." Linden and Emma Paroli, who each have children born prematurely, have joined forces with Mia Weschler Doron, a physician whose specialty is neonatology, to produce the book they wish had been available to them when they needed it. The authors cover myriad issues, ranging from a discussion of risk factors for prematurity, through possible and probable problems in the newborn's life and early years, to long-term prognoses. A must-have for parents of preemies

What a great book! It has answered all the questions my husband and I have had about our premature baby. All the information is practical and straightforward without being negative or intimidating. The book is organized in chronological order, from before birth to bringing your baby home and beyond. It also includes useful resources for parents. We wish the book had been published when our preemie was born, but we're still finding it an invaluable resource today.

1st Time Mom of a 32wk Preemie

I can't say enough about this book! What a help it has been for keeping my sanity and getting me through one of the most difficult times in my life. I was admitted to the hospital with premature labor at 20 weeks into my pregnancy. I stayed there for 3 months before delivering our son at the gestational age of 32 weeks, 4 days. Not knowing when I was actually going to deliver, this book explained everything one should expect at all stages of a pre-term delivery, beginning from 26 weeks through 34+ weeks. It covers reasons for premature labor and delivery, surgeries and drugs administered for premature labor, surviving bedrest/hospitalization, delivery, EVERYTHING to expect in a NICU, the differences between pre-term and full-term babies, bringing your preemie home, and their development during the chilhood years. Although I was not having twins, etc. myself, the book also includes a lot of great information on multiples. After reading and understanding the types of monitors and machinery my baby may have needed at each stage, I felt much better knowing WHY these things were attached to our son when he was born. My husband and I also took a tour of the NICU at our hospital (which I highly recommend!)so that it was much less of a shock when we found ourselves there after delivery. This book was right on the money, and we got to see everything they talked about hands-on. This is an excellent book to help anyone conquer the fears, worries and misconceptions of having a premature infant (and it also comes highly recommended from the nurses and neonatologists of our NICU as well!)

I was skeptical but-

The book is an easy read and seemed a bit padded out to me. It was recommended to me by a friend who swears by it. I was very skeptical that a single word could change anything but I have now had several instances where something was lost and I used the appropriate switch word only to find the item in question or remember where it was within moments. I have also had a few instances of pain, such as a headache, used the switch word and the pain immediately or momentarily went away- So now I'm thinking there might be some value to this idea. It's a very simple concept but there's quite a list of switch words given so it'll be a while before I can keep them all straight!

Best book about conscious/subconscious balance today

"Together." Who would think that one simple word would be the fulcrum for engaging the inner and outer minds in common cause? Although dated by contemporary standards, Mangan was the most knowledgeable writer on the subject of internal self-union, and how to achieve it, in the last 100 years. Must have for a bottom-line understanding of mind dynamics, no matter what your background.

What i thought

I also agree with 'gunslinger' when I bought and read the book, the beginning seemed familar to me and i had to backtrack twice to make sure i wasn't reading the same book 'Claimed'. But im not sure who wrote what first, but i can tell you that as you read along you can tell its not the same book, it was just the beginning. Overall i loved it.

I love this series!

So you have NO business writing a review about a book you HAVEN'T read! I loved this book and was excited to see a 3rd in the Novikov Clan Series! It is a menage book, throw in some danger, and Alpha male types who make some stupid mistakes and it's a great book! Love Emma and her ability to see the picture as a whole and make some good choices when it comes to her life and love. Can't wait for book 4!

Third book in series

The other reviewer did not seem to look at the cover of this book since she did not see that this was the third book in the Novikove Clan series the previous book was Kate's Mates. It was a good book though the previous books had were polar bears while this one had brown bears and you hear little about the characters in the previous books. It can stand alone and still be a good book.

An Excellent Approach to Helping Folks Overcome Presentation Phobia

I have assessed at least 5 other textbooks about Basic Presentation Skills and this is, by far, the most positive, comprehensive and clearly written I have ever seen for EFL or ESL learners. Of course, it is not perfect. But it takes the right approach by starting with the easiest and least intimidating skills first, then incrementally building up to more advanced concepts. The DVD includes several very well produced, enlightening, and entertaining demo presentations that would engage ANY class of learners--not just second language learners--and the overall tone of the package (book and DVD together) is so up-beat and positive that it will help just about anyone to overcome one of life's greatest fears, the fear of public speaking. Highly Recommended!

Of little use

The best feature of this text is a DVD containing example presentations. Unfortunately, the impetus for the design of the presentations seems to have been more on being amusing and "professional" than on utility for either instructors or learners: none bears repeated viewing, and intrusive voiceovers militate further against intensive viewing.
The textbook portion of the course is liberally larded with illustrations that do not contribute to learning, and the pacing of the text uneven in the extreme: instructors will find classes ripping through 10 or 15 pages per hour in one section and taking 2-3 hours per page in others. The text does not lend itself to language instruction _per se_; the presentation skills ostensibly taught are not likely to be useful for future presenters aside from (as would any other textbook or practice) providing opportunities for practice.
A further caution about a "new" edition currently being marketed by the publisher, this "new" edition including access to an "E-book": the "new" edition consists of a new cover only: not a word of the text has changed, and the "E-book" is simply a slow, poorly designed Javascript rendering of the textbook.
Overall, not recommended at all.

Get Your Life Rolling Forward

I am the editor for a national newsletter and was approached to read this book to do a potential review for our readers. While I generally don't have the time to read everything I'm sent, I did glance at the first few pages of this book and, as the saying goes, "that's all she wrote."

First, the book is very easy to read and it can be read in small increments. In fact, I recommend you read a chapter a day to get the full affect. I found myself looking forward to taking 10 minutes and finding out what was going to happen next. (You would think I was talking about a mystery novel, huh?)

Second, the characters are amazing. These are people you would meet on the street (or a bus in this case). These are people you work with. These are people you have to interact with. These are REAL people doing REAL people things.

Next, the delivery of the underlying premise is excellent. This is not just a "here's your tip, now good luck making it work for you" book. Jon shows you what the main character does to change his life around the tips. He shows you the good, the bad, and the ugly - but in a wonderful way.

Finally, you will be different after you read it. I'm trying to not give away the story because I want you to experience it first hand. However, here's an hint at an example: there is a term used to describe certain people in your life. Once you've read the book, you'll be able to spot these people in a heartbeat and you will "drive a stake through their heart" for good. (My lips are sealed beyond that...so read the book to find out who these people are called!)

Now, the above was my editor's hat, quick review. Let me tell you what this did in my real life. The day I received the book, I sat down and read only 3 pages. I called to my husband, handed him the book and said, "if you read this, your life will change dramatically." This book was all about him - as if Jon had somehow gotten into my husband's psyche and understood just what he was feeling. My husband read through the book and each day we discussed it. I immediately begin to see the transformation. He became more positive. He started to believe in himself. He started to become more assertive in his relationships with his family (a MAJOR MAJOR accomplishment). He became more communicative with me. In a nutshell: MY HUSBAND GOT MORE OUT OF THIS BOOK THAN THE PAST YEAR OF CAREER/LIFE COUNSELING (that was costing us $35/week!).

As a writer, you would think I could find a way to tell you how this book is something you MUST HAVE. Yet, how do you express your feelings about something that has so substantially helped someone you love? The only thing I can say is that if you feel that you've lost who you are, and that the world is starting to overwhelm you, step onto the bus and reclaim who you are. It can only make your life better. Then, once you've changed, tell others about the book and sit back and enjoy the ride as you watch them change. Restore that belief in yourself and in your fellow humankind. Yes...you can get all that...just by reading a book!

P.S. Don't be surprised if you find that you want a bus where you live that offers all this. I know that I did! ;)

If you love parables, you'll love this book...

Middle aged man comes home one day and starts to take stock of his life - he is failing at his job, in his marriage and with his kids. One day his car breaks down on his way to work and he has to take the bus to work - he meets a bus driver and passengers who force him to reflect on his life and a better way forward. The author, through this parable, reveals "10 secrets" for success in life, at home and in work that lead to fulfillment and accomplishment. The 10 rules:

1) You're the driver of your bus
2) Desire, vision, and focus move your bus in the right direction
3) Fuel your ride with positive energy (negative energy is friction)
4) Invite people on your bus and share your vision for the road ahead
5) Don't waste your energy on those who don't get on your bus
6) Post a sign that says no energy vampires allowed on your bus (get rid of the malcontents)
7) Enthusiasm attracts more passengers and energizes them for the ride
8) Love your passengers by giving them your time, listening, recognition, service - work to bring out the best in them
9) Drive with purpose
10) Have fun and enjoy the ride

My assessment:

1) Easy to read, can finish in one 2 hour sitting

2) Initially comes off as "too cute" but author manages to pull you in with a simple but powerful message with some basic plays in a ground game that can win

3)Applicable to all ages from teenager on up

4)If you like parables, you'll love the story's messages. If not, you'll wonder why you didn't just jump to the excellent outline recap in the back of the book.

5) This story reminds me of the famous Albert Einstein quote: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler." The author succeeds in taking a frustratingly easy trap to fall into with a simple and effective path forward.

Two of my favorite excerpts:

"The goal is not to be better than anyone else but rather be better than you were yesterday."

and

"Your positive energy and vision must be greater than anyone's and everyone's negativity. Your certainty must be greater than everyone's doubt. After all, George, there will always be the doubters who doubt, doubt and doubt and tell you you can't do this and you won't be able to accomplish that. They think that dreams were meant for others but not for people like you and them. And there will even be people who don't want you to succeed because it makes them see their own weaknesses and failures. So that's how important your positive energy is George. You can always kick people off your bus and you'll need to do that from time to time but just remember that there will always be more negative people who get on. And sometimes you will have an Energy Vampire on your bus like a boss or someone who you can't kick off. You got to deal with them. That's why you got to feed the positive dog and why you got to cultivate it every day and why we gave you the Energy Book. One day is not enough, George. It's got to be a habit. Positive energy is a like a muscle. The more you use it the stronger it gets. The stronger it gets the more powerful you become. Repetition is the key and the more you focus on positive energy the more it becomes your nature state. So when someone comes at you with negativity you will be able to respond with strength and positive energy."

I've been in a fatal crash back in September of 2015 and it's been really hard to deal with. My counselor recommended this book to help me deal with my past and all the negative family that have fueled my life and the accident. I've never thought about all the negative fueling my life before until this book. I've always been a positive person until life hit me hard with this accident. I was finding it difficult to stay positive anymore until I read this book. Thank you so much for helping me get back to joy and thanks to my councillor to showing me the way.
